How I Draw Birds | Ink & Wash | No Pencil!

In this video I show from start to finish how I draw a common bird found all over Colorado - a Stellar's Jay. I go straight in with ink, without the use of a pencil. Then I apply a watercolor wash using various techniques, such as blending, lifting, wet on wet, dry on wet, and building up layers. The Stellar's Jay has a very stark, black head, and black upper body. This video shows how to achieve a very good impression of that look without relying on the actual use of a black paint, which in paintings can end up producing too strong of an effect and can overpower the rest of the watercolors.
